The convention kicked off with a bustling start, as 158 attendees gathered to delve into the world of geriatric health. The opening ceremony was graced by esteemed guests, including Penang Agrotech and Food Security, Rural Development and Health Committee Chairman Dr. Norlela Ariffin, Universiti Sains Malaysia School of Pharmaceutical Science Dean Prof. Dr. Habibah A. Wahab, Deputy President of MPS Malaysia Mr. Andrew Tan, President of MCPG Ms. Foon Hwei Foong, Chairman of MPS Penang Ms. Gina Koay, Chairman of MCPG Northern Region Ms. Teoh Sin Yee, and Organizing Chairperson of Penang Pharmacists Convention 2022 Mr. Tan Zhi Kai.
A notable feature of the convention was the extensive media coverage it received. Four prominent Malaysian media companies, including Bernama, Sin Chew, Guang Ming (China Press), and Bulletin Mutiara, were present to capture the event's essence, emphasizing its significance in the healthcare sector.
The convention garnered the support of sponsors, with Viatris and ZP Therapeutics as silver sponsors, along with several other contributors, including Duopharma, Dyamed Biotech, Blackmores, Thomson, Bio-Life, TYT, Revo Healthcare, Mediven, Rightest, and Aurelius Care.

Educational Insights from Renowned Speakers
One of the standout features of the convention was the wealth of educational content provided through a series of ten insightful lectures. These lectures delved into a wide spectrum of topics related to geriatric health and were met with enthusiastic acclaim from our attendees. We were honored to host two distinguished Geriatricians from Penang, Dr. Low Chung Min and Dr. Alan Ch'ng, who shared their expertise on Integrated Care for the Elderly and the Management of Type II Diabetes in the Elderly.
Furthermore, we had the pleasure of welcoming Ms. Chew Siew Mei, a pharmacist and the founder of Seniora Buddy Services, a specialized firm dedicated to preserving the dignity of the elderly in our country. She shared her profound insights into the Extension of Primary Care and the Integral Role of Pharmacists in Post-Discharge Care.
In addition to these esteemed speakers, we were privileged to have Pn. Rosmaliah from the Geriatric Special Interest Group at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, who provided valuable insights into optimizing pharmacotherapy for older adults. Our attendees also had the opportunity to learn from six other equally insightful lectures, rounding out a comprehensive educational program that enriched our understanding of geriatric health.

The interactive workshops were a standout feature of the convention, offering attendees a unique and engaging learning experience that set this event apart from the rest. These hands-on sessions provided a valuable opportunity for participants to step into the shoes of the elderly by simulating their daily lives, enhancing their understanding of the challenges faced by older individuals, and learning how to assist patients in various real-life scenarios.

The Stoma Care Management workshop, in particular, was eye-opening. Participants actively engaged in hands-on experiences, gaining practical skills in changing pouching systems and managing ostomy appliances (ileostomy or colostomy). This exposure to stoma care management was invaluable, considering that many pharmacists seldom encounter it in their usual community or industrial pharmacy settings. With the growing number of elderly individuals grappling with stoma-related challenges, pharmacists play a pivotal role in educating and supporting patients in their stoma care journey.

In the Wound Care Management workshop, participants acquired essential knowledge on wound management, post-procedure scar care, eyelid hygiene, and the latest advancements in dermatitis management. It was heartening to note that more than 50% of participants expressed their enthusiasm and enjoyment of these hands-on workshops, underscoring their effectiveness in facilitating interactive learning.
In fact, a resounding majority of over 75% of participants found the Interactive Workshop session exceptionally interesting, emphasizing the value of these immersive learning experiences in enhancing their grasp of geriatric health and care.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to workshop supporting groups, for their invaluable contributions and relentless commitment. They Include Convatec, Remeds Homecare Support Services, Dyamed Biotech, Your Physio, Le Careen Medical Supplies, and Well Rehab.
